Conditions and Restrictions of a Learner’s Permit

After earning a Learner’s Permit, there are a few restrictions and Georgia Learner’s Permit requirements that must be followed so that a permit does not get revoked or canceled. The most important requirement is to maintain safe driving habits at all times. Your school attendance is monitored closely by the State of Georgia.  If there are 10 or more unexcused absences from school, then your permit will instantly be revoked by the DDS. Also, anyone under the age of 18 can have their Learner’s Permit revoked by their parent/guardian.

Driving responsibly is something that must be carefully taught as soon as someone begins to drive. Simply memorizing road rules is not enough, seeing as practice and experience are the greatest teachers. A novice driver must become comfortable driving in stressful, unusual and different environment and conditions.

Seeing as real-life driving experience cannot be substituted by anything else, it is important to drive with a licensed driver who is 21 years or older. Other points to take note of after receiving your Learner’s Permit:

•      A person of age 21-years-old or above with a valid full driver’s license must be present with you in the car’s front seat when you are driving. This rule must be followed, in case you need assistance with driving.

•      You cannot drive between the hours of 12 am to 5 am

•      The permit is valid for 2 years and must be kept for at least 12 months before being able to move on to the next GDL stage

The rules and restrictions mentioned above are set in place to protect the new driver, the passenger and any surrounding vehicles. A single mistake can lead to serious consequences should a driver not be knowledgeable or experienced. 

Skipping the Learner’s Permit Test

Those who are at least 18 years old can skip the Learner’s Permit step and apply for a full driver’s license. Just as the Learner’s Permit requirements found above, there are certain documents that must be present when applying for a full license (for those 18+)

•      1 document that proves your Social Security Number (SSN)

•      1 document that proves your identity

•      2 documents that prove your Georgia residency

•      Pay the driver’s license fee

In this case, 3 tests will be conducted: a vision exam, a written permit test and a driving skills test. All of these tests must be successfully passed. Practice tests as well as practice driving are the best ways to ensure passing the DDS requirements.

Fees for the Georgia Learner’s Permit

A fee must be paid to the Georgia DDS for a State-approved Learner’s Permit. According to Georgia Learner’s Permit requirements,this fee can be paid using cash, money order, credit/debit card or check. There will be no refunds for tests that have been failed.
